Bloomington Restorations, Inc. is the historic preservation not-for-profit group serving Monroe County, Indiana.
BRI is like an animal shelter for old buildings. We take what one person has cast off and we find someone else to take it and love it. Because we understand old buildings, because we understand restoration, and because we understand the financial incentives for restoration, we can help people see great potential in what many would say is too far gone.
We seek to save houses through our Endangered Historic Properties Program, getting control of threatened properties and turning them over to people who will restore them. We save buildings through our Affordable Housing Program, utilizing federal dollars to help restore rundown structures. And we preserve the landmark Hinkle-Garton Farmstead, our 11 acre headquarters. The Hinkle-Garton Farmstead is available to rent for private parties, seminars, and other special events.
We stay on top of local preservation matters, keeping our membership informed and taking stands on important issues. We organize tours of historic homes and neighborhoods and make preservation facts readily available to encourage public participation in our cause.
BRI has a long and rich history in Bloomington and Monroe County, with a dedicated staff and board of directors who are committed to preserving our local history and heritage.
